| State housing facility in Porterville to partly close |

State budget cuts will force a portion of the Porterville Development Center’s General Treatment Area to close. The general treatment area houses 167 patients with varying physical and mental disabilities. That’s the smaller of the center’s two areas. The state facility’s forensic area, which houses those declared incompetent to stand trial, are a danger to themselves and others, and declared insane, will remain open. That unit houses 199 patients. It has a maximum capacity of 211. The Porterville facility is one of three the state is closing. There are just four in the state to begin with.
