A former correctional officer with the Colorado Department of Corrections pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of criminal attempt to commit sexual assault. The charges stem from incidents at the Arrowhead Correctional Center, where he had been employed for 10 years. Each count is a Class 5 felony. Gregory Smith, 57, was sentenced to 100 days in the Fremont County Jail and 20 years of Sex Offender Intensive Supervision Probation. If probation is revoked, Smith could face up to eight years in DOC on each charge. Fremont County Deputy District Attorney Amy Wren said Smith used power, position and control to commit the alleged sex offenses. She said Smith contacted offenders at the facility, offering them candy bars, making sexually harassing comments and later "grabbing" their genitals. He also allegedly "slapped" one offender "on the butt" and "came on to him." He reportedly also asked to see their genitalia. Read More. |
