CANON CITY— A 57-year-old former Department of Corrections officer accused of sexually assaulting male inmates was sentenced to 100 days in jail and 20 years of sex offender specific intense probation during a court hearing Wednesday. Gregory Smith, 57, of Colorado Springs pleaded guilty to two amended counts of attempted sexual assault prior to being sentenced Wednesday. Smith worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections for 10 years before he was fired following his August arrest. Smith is accused of sexually assaulting three inmates while he worked as a correctional officer at the minimum-restricted Arrowhead prison Therapeutic Community at the East Canon Prison Complex.
