| Dad disappointed after South Dakota Women's Prison cancels weekend overnight visits |

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota — A man whose wife is an inmate at the South Dakota Women's Prison says his family is disappointed with the decision from state corrections officials to cancel a program that allowed for overnight weekend visits of family members. Sioux Falls resident Kevin Kroger, his wife, Nichole Kroger, and their children have reunited eight times at the prison's "Parents and Children Together" house since she began serving a sentence a year ago for a sixth-offense DUI and child abuse related to a drunken driving incident, the Argus Leader (http://argusne.ws/1VYZWvJ ) reported. But they were notified by the state this week about the cancellation of their upcoming March 19 visitation. Kevin Kroger says the weekend interactions have been important for their 3-year-old son, who has Down syndrome. "Those monthly visits are extremely important to him and that relationship," said Kroger, who noted that his wife's disciplinary record is spotless. He says the visits to the PACT house are meaningful because they allow them to do regular family activities such as reading bedtime stories or giving their son a bath. Read More. |
