Lethal injection or electrocution? That's the choice that faces death row inmates in Virginia. Most choose lethal injection, which is the default choice for those who decline to choose. But that choice is becoming a thing of the past, now that drug manufacturers are increasingly refusing to allow their products to be used to kill people. That's putting the Virginia Department of Corrections in a bind. How can they kill Ricky Gray? That's the man currently facing the death penalty for the 2006 killing spree in Richmond that left left seven dead. He was scheduled to be executed next week, although that's been delayed as he appeals the case to the United States Supreme Court. Meanwhile, officials at the Department of Corrections are trying to figure out how to execute him without the necessary drugs. Enter members of the Virginia General Assembly, who are moving forward with a plan that would force death row inmates into the electric chair rather than giving them a choice. "I don't want this bill," says Republican Sen. Mark Obenshain of Rockingham County. "I want us to be able to secure the drugs necessary to carry out execution by lethal injection.
