Several counties in the region are considering changing how probation services are offered in an effort to recoup more costs and increase local say in programming. Nicollet County is looking at a system with entirely local control, called Community Corrections Act. Blue Earth County has this system, in which the county board makes probation department decisions, using advice from an advisory committee of stakeholders — judges, law enforcement, attorneys — as well as citizens.
