Correction's juvenile budget benefits from closing Star Academy

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -The eventual closure of Star Academy, The Department of Correction’s juvenile facility in Custer, is already reaping savings.

In this morning’s Joint Appropriation’s meeting, Representative Justin Cronin of Gettysburg moved to reduce a line in correction’s juvenile budget by almost $1.2 million.

Cronin says that while he's saddened some employees will either be let go or moved, the fact that the state struggles with keeping a juvenile facility open because there aren't enough offenders is a good thing.
