CHIPPEWA FALLS — New tablets in the Chippewa County Jail allow inmates to read the law library, order items from the canteen, make medical requests and file complaints. Within two weeks inmates will be able to access email and send text messages from the machines. Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk said the 18 tablets were installed throughout the jail within the past two weeks and are now operating. The machines are set up as kiosk stations in each of the jail pods as well as in the lobby. “There is endless possibilities what these kiosks can do,” Kowalczyk said. “And it eliminates a lot of paperwork for our jailers. They are very handy. Long range, this is going to save a lot of time and effort.” Kowalczyk said CBM Managed Services of South Dakota provided the tablets and designed the software specifically for inmates. The county only covered costs of wiring for the machines, which will be paid for from jail canteen revenue, Kowalczyk said. Read More. |
