Terry Collins, a former Ohio prisons director who in retirement became a death penalty opponent, died today. Collins, 63, died of an apparent heart attack at Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe, where he lived with Linda, his wife of 40 years. His family confirmed his death. Collins worked for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for more than 32 years, including serving as director of the agency from 2006 until his retirement in Jan. 2010. In 2014, the state named a facility after him. The Terry Collins Re-entry Center in Chillicothe is multiprogram, multiservice facility, the first of its kind in the nation, located on the grounds of the Ross Correctional Institution. Read More. |
