| AG recommends delay on Ward sheriff’s job until inmate death case resolved |

BISMARCK — Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem recommended Tuesday that the governor delay acting on a petition to remove the Ward County sheriff until the criminal case over the death of an inmate is concluded. Ward County Special Prosecutor Seymour Jordan filed a petition to have Sheriff Steven Kukowski removed from office. Kukowski is charged with two counts of reckless endangerment and public servant refusing to perform duty relating to his management of the Ward County Jail. The allegations stem from the death of Dustin Irwin, 25, Mandaree, who died after his health deteriorated while in Ward County custody. Read More. |
