| Investigation finds no illegal activity by ex-prison warden |

BATON ROUGE, La. — State investigators announced Tuesday that they haven’t found any evidence of illegal activity by Louisiana State Penitentiary’s longtime warden after complaints that he directed subordinates to perform work at his Baton Rouge homes. In a letter Tuesday to state Department of Corrections Secretary James LeBlanc, state Inspector General Stephen Street said his office is closing its investigation of former warden Burl Cain without taking any further action. Street said investigators from his office and the Louisiana State Police looked into allegations that Cain instructed Corrections Department employees to work on his homes while they were being paid for working at the Angola prison. They also investigated claims that Cain gave preferential treatment to an inmate and ordered workers to drive his wife’s state-owned vehicle so it would appear that she was working when she wasn’t.
