| Northeast Florida inmates among participants for Lake Butler prison's March for Babies fundraiser |

Twenty-two Northeast Florida men will be among 53 inmates who plan to participate in a March for Babies benefit marathon April 1 at the Florida Department of Corrections Reception and Medical Center in Lake Butler. The inmates are asking friends, families and even strangers to donate to their team, said classification officer Robert McRae. The 5-hour, 26.2-mile trek will take place on the prison track, with some of the inmates running, others walking. They have run half marathons for other causes, but "this time they wanted their run to stand for something greater. They decided a full marathon would be an appropriate challenge for such an important cause," McRae said. The March for Babies is a nationwide March of Dimes fundraiser for programs that help mothers have healthy, full-term pregnancies and for research on premature births and how to prevent them, according to the March of Dimes.
