Port Barre Police Dept. now has Certified Corrections Officers

The Port Barre Police Department now has certified corrections officers for the first time in the department's history.

Port Barre, although a small town, has a jail with a full-time trustee work crew. The Police Department averages between 50 and 90 arrests per month.

Port Barre Police has for full-time dispatchers and the Chief Secretary will often fill in for dispatchers when they are unavailable.

So, the department sent those dispatchers to the Louisiana POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training) Corrections Academy held at the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Department, to give them the training and certifications they need as corrections officers to help take over some of the jail duties.
