A former Ky. metro corrections officer plead guilty Monday to sexual abuse. Charles Dobbs was scheduled to go on trial for the abuse that happened over an eight-year time span. Instead, he admitted to some charges that included sexual abuse and incest. Dobbs worked for Metro Corrections for 16 years before he resigned shortly after his arrest in February 2003 following the molestation allegations. During Monday's proceedings, Dobbs admitted to abusing a then 14-year-old girl beginning in 1995 and through his arrest in 2003. He plead guilty to six counts of incest, two accounts of sexual abuse and one count of unlawful transaction with a minor. Dobbs entered an Alford plea to some of the charges, meaning he was not admitting to the crimes, but did agree that the prosecution had enough evidence to convict him. As part of the plea, Dobbs will receive at least 10 years in prison, but could be sentenced to up to 20. One of the most serious charges against Dobbs, sodomy, which carries a penalty of 20 years to life, was dismissed as part of the plea. Dobbs said nothing in court other than to answer the questions. As he left the courtroom, he told reporters "to leave me alone." The victim did not testify in this case. Court records show that Dobbs is in the midst of a divorce. Dobbs is scheduled to be sentenced December 3rd. |
