| Call to upgrade offender ankle bracelets |

Labour's Kelvin Davis is calling on the government to strengthen ankle bracelets so offenders can't cut them off. It follows reports that over 40 offenders went missing around the country after removing their bracelets. Davis wants to see an upgrade of the quality of ankle bracelets for offenders “Firstly, the bracelets must be strengthened. Secondly, the offenders need to be apprehended.” The Department of Corrections says on average between 25 and 45 offenders have removed their ankle bracelets and are now missing.
