| Inmate gets 20 years for jail fire |

SAGUACHE — A Saguache County jail inmate was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday for setting fire to the jail while another former inmate pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in the incident. Saguache County District Court Judge Patrick Hayes handed down the sentence to Dick Lopez, who was convicted by a jury last month of arson, criminal mischief and inciting a riot in a detention facility. Although the arson charge carried a presumptive sentencing range of 12 years, Hays cited Lopez’s lengthy criminal record — six prior felony and 17 prior misdemeanor convictions — as an aggravating factor worthy of added time.
