PITTSFIELD TWP, MI – One inmate found her passed out on her cell toilet. Another inmate found her face down on her cellmate's bunk. Finally, a prison guard found her unresponsive and blue on her cell floor. There, Kayla Miller was pronounced dead of an apparent heroin overdose – her often-troubled life cut short. Miller, 25, arrived on her cell floor July 16, 2015 via a love story gone awry, if the man accused of providing that fatal dose is to be believed. In an interview with authorities, John Lingle, 67, of Cassopolis, Mich., told a story of his unrequited love for Miller, which ultimately drove him to smuggle drugs into the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility, according to an incident report obtained by The Ann Arbor News through Freedom of Information Act requests.
