ANTIOCH, Ill. — Authorities in northern Illinois say sheriff's deputies have shot and killed a Florida fugitive who was also a person of interest in a Kentucky double homicide. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force says officers shot 52-year-old Gerald Robert Boyes after he brandished a handgun while they were trying to arrest him. The shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of a pizzeria in the village of Antioch, about 50 miles northwest of Chicago. Task Force assistant commander Thomas Nugent says Boyes, whose last known address was in Jacksonville, was wanted in Florida for violating parole. He said Boyes was found with a 2015 Ford Flex reported stolen after it was rented from a Jacksonville agency on March 9 and not returned as expected on March 11. Boyes, according to McCracken County, Kentucky, Sheriff Jon Hayden, was also a person of interest in a double homicide. Tuesday evening, the bodies of 73-year-old Gerald B. Boyes — the fugitive's father — and 67-year-old Billie Potter were discovered in Potter's Paducah home. McCracken County Coroner Dan Sims said the victims were beaten to death and the weapon used was found at the scene. Read More. |
