| Prison construction bill's fate uncertain in Ala. House |

The prison construction bill is on the House Ways and Means General Fund Committee agenda Wednesday. Beyond that, its future is uncertain. The chairman of the committee said Monday he didn’t “know what direction” the bill was going amid concerns over the state borrowing $800 million to fund the proposal. “I think there’s a lot more vetting that needs to be done,” Rep. Steve Clouse, R-Ozark, said in a phone interview. “The size concerns people, the size of the bond.” Clouse said many discussions about the bill were taking place, including the possibility of scaling the proposal back.
