An outpatient treatment center for drug offenders will be one of Cowley County’s next victims of state budget cuts. Community Corrections Director Mike Knapp told the county commission at its Tuesday meeting that the day reporting treatment center would be closed at the end of the department’s fiscal year on June 30. The program is a level-one outpatient drug and alcohol treatment center, certified by the state’s Department of Children and Families. It provides cognitive based drug and alcohol treatment to offenders in the county. Knapp said the program has a full-time counselor who provides group and personal sessions as part of a 26-week program. That position will be cut. “We are very fortunate to have our own counselor to work with the clients,” Knapp said. “I think we are one of the few counties to have our own counselor, and this program has worked very well for 23 years.” Read More. |
