Richmond, Virginia -Virginia will join several states that keep secret the identities of suppliers of lethal injection drugs, under a measure approved by the Republican-controlled General Assembly on Wednesday amid growing concern over the state’s ability to carry out capital punishment. Supporters of the contentious proposal backed by Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe said suppliers will only sell their products to the state if their identities remain confidential to protect them from harassment. The measure became a referendum on the death penalty after McAuliffe warned that capital punishment will disappear in Virginia if the state doesn’t act. Read More. |
