The Modoc County Sheriff's Office said an inmate that had escaped was recaptured Thursday morning. According to deputies, the inmate, identified as Joshua Helgeson, 30, was discovered missing from his cell by correctional staff while doing a cell check around 5:30 a.m. Officials said they aren't sure when he actually escaped, just when he was discovered missing. The jail then went into lockdown, and officials were able to determine that Helgeson was no longer on the property. Officials explained that through information from the public, officials learned that Helgeson had gotten access to a vehicle. Officers spotted him driving in Alturas, and attempted to pull him over, which is when he took off and led them on a chase. Read More. |
