| SC Department of Corrections to close Aiken facility in June |

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Officials with the South Carolina Department of Corrections announced that the Lower Savannah Pre-Release Center in Aiken will close in early June. The institution is a level 1 minimum security facility that hosts inmates who are being reintegrated into society. The center first opened in 1973 and can hold up to 250 inmates, currently only 155 are housed there. The decline is due to the passing of the Omnibus Crime Bill in 2010. Read More. |
