| De Blasio budget includes millions to build new jail for adolescent inmates |

Mayor Bill de Blasio will allocate $170 million over the next two years to build a new facility for adolescent inmates currently housed at Rikers Island and increase funding to improve services for other inmates at the city jail, according to the executive budget for Fiscal Year 2017 he will unveil Tuesday. The funding will impact programs in the current fiscal year, which ends June 30, as well in Fiscal Year 2017, which begins July 1. The Department of Correction will receive a $91 million, four-year investment in its capital budget beginning in FY17 to create space for inmate programming, such as GED classes, work force training, substance abuse and life skill classes.
