| N.J. prison inmate escapes, manhunt underway in Cumberland County |

MAURICE RIVER TWP. — A manhunt is underway in Cumberland County Tuesday after an inmate escaped from Bayside State Prison, authorities said. Authorities were conducting a headcount of inmates at in the minimum security unit of the prison at 6 a.m. when they discovered Arthur W. Buckel, 39, was missing, said Matt Schuman, spokesman for the Department of Corrections. Buckel was sentenced to a maximum of three years in prison in January for multiple offenses in 2014 and 2015 in Union and Passaic counties including aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, and burglary. Buckel was eligible for parole in three weeks — May 21 — but with his escape, he could face an additional three to five years on his sentence, according to Schuman. Read More. |
