| New Hampshire corrections officer receives department's highest award |

CONCORD — Corrections officer Gerard Williams prevented an inmate from grabbing his partner’s gun during a transport to a hospital last May. On Tuesday, Williams became only the ninth person to be awarded the New Hampshire Department of Corrections Medal of Honor — the department’s highest award — for his actions that day. Officials said had the prisoner been successful, the two officers and members of the public could have been injured, or worse. Corrections Commissioner William L. Wrenn made the presentation, and congratulated employees honored. In all, 45 medals and citation bars were awarded. Read More. |
