SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WRSP) — A special ceremony was held Wednesday to honor fallen heroes in the department of corrections, who've died in the line of duty. The DOC held its annual memorial wall ceremony at its Springfield headquarters Wednesday. The wall honors 35 men and women who've fallen across the state. That includes a mother of seven, Frieda King, who worked at Pontiac Correctional Center, and was murdered by an inmate there in 1983. Her sister was at Wednesday's ceremony. "It's just so rewarding that they do this for my sister. She didn't die in vain; she'll always be remembered here because of the wall and everything. They keep doing this every year, and it's just unbelievable what they do," said Rosalie Geralds, sister of Frieda King. Read More. |
