One of those work centers is located near the Ardmore Municipal Airport, while another is in Madill. There is also one located in Healdton; however, Rep. Tommy Hardin, R-Madill, said that it is under contract with the Howard McLeod Correctional Center and will not be affected.

“I’ve talked to county commissioners and some city employees about what we can do, looking at maybe trying to head this off and try entering a contract with a certain prison,” Hardin said. “But they said it had to deal with the liability and insurance and those kinds of issues.”

The work center near the airport costs $961,796 per year to operate and the one in Madill costs about $953,000 per year. Both have 100 beds. As of Friday, there were 86 inmates in the Ardmore facility and 88 in Madill, Hardin said.
