Firefighters are a vital part of our community. They protect us from fires and save lives, but not every county and city in Georgia can afford to pay for them. Nearly one-third of Georgia's 159 counties look to the prison system to fill that void. 19 of the state’s prisons and 6 of the county prisons have firefighting programs. Johnson State Prison is one of those. They train inmates to protect the community from fire and other danger any normal fire department would, but they're all serving hard time at Johnson State Prison. Read More. |
