| Fugitive nabbed in CT after 48 years on the run |

A fugitive who spent more than 48 years on the lam was arrested in Sherman, CT on Monday. Federal officials said Robert E. Stackowitz escaped from an infirmary at the Carroll County Prison Work Camp in Carrolton, GA. He was serving a 17 year sentence for a forced robbery at the time. Members of the Georgia Department of Corrections assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Task Force discovered a possible alias for Stackowitz, which led them to an address in Connecticut. Marshals in Connecticut acted on the information. They located Stackowitz and were able to arrest him without incident in Sherman. Read More. |
