MONTGOMERY, Alabama — State officials say a lockdown has been lifted at the Elmore Correctional Facility, one of two Alabama prisons where inmate workers have been refusing to work. Alabama Department of Corrections spokesman Bob Horton said about 80 percent of the 300 Elmore inmates who participated in the "strike" have returned to work. Horton said previously that another 60 inmates have been refusing to work in the sewing and license plate plants at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility near Atmore. He told The Montgomery Advertiser (on.mgmadv.com/1TQkiHD) that the Holman prison remains on lockdown, as the inmates there are continuing to strike. Read More. |
