TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – The Shawnee County Department of Corrections reported the death of an inmate in custody Tuesday morning. Public Information Officer Timothy Phelps tells KSNT News that while conducting routine guard tours, a 44-year-old inmate identified as Jewell Stillwell Oliver Jr., was found unresponsive in his cell. Medical and security staff initiated CPR and AED intervention until emergency responders arrived. Oliver was transferred to a nearby hospital and pronounced deceased at 7:58 a.m. Oliver was booked into the Adult Detention Center on July 10, 2015. His charges included aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, felony battery on LEO, and misdemeanor battery. Read More. |
