MONROE, Wash. -- Two corrections officers at the Monroe prison complex were hospitalized Tuesday morning after they were attacked by a prisoner.

The incident happened just after 9 a.m. when 32-year-old inmate James Suber punched an officer in the face after his cell was searched, according to Susan Biller with the Department of Corrections. A second officer was also injured when he tried to intervene.

Both officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment that included stitches for one officer, and they were expected to be released later Tuesday, Biller said.
