| Arizona inmate escapes from Washington state jail |

The search was on Thursday for an Arizona Department of Corrections inmate who escaped custody from a jail in Washington state, the department announced. Michael Diontae Johnson, 30, was being held in Clark County Jail in Vancouver, Wash., to face court proceedings there, according to a DOC statement. He was facing charges of harassment, assault, intimidating a witness and bail jumping, according to a press release from the Clark County Sheriff's Office. Johnson escaped at about 8:30 a.m. by trading identification with another prisoner scheduled to be released, the Sheriff's Office statement said. A few hours later, jailers noticed he was missing during a scheduled head count. "We are approximately six weeks away from implementing a biometrics screening tool which would have prevented this type of escape," Clark County Jail Chief Ric Bishop said in the statement. This tool would record an inmate's fingerprints when they were brought in, and would then have to match them before an inmate is released. Read More. |
