Fremont County Coroner Randy Keller has been in office only 16 months, but he's already making significant strides by working to pass legislation that relieves some burdens on local taxpayers. Keller, along with Sen. Kevin Grantham, worked to draft and pass the "County Coroners Reimbursement By DOC" bill that directs the Department of Corrections to reimburse a county for reasonable and necessary expenses of investigations and autopsies performed by the county coroner on persons in the custody of the department. The bill also appropriates $32,175 from the general fund to DOC. The bill passed unanimously in both the House and the Senate and was signed May 4 by Gov. John Hickenlooper. "I am just extremely happy with the bill making it through the state capital because it relieves a tremendous burden off our county and the taxpayers of Fremont County," Keller said. "It takes the burden and distributes it in the state budget, which everybody should be sharing in." Read More. |
