| Graham Employee Earns Statewide IDOC Award |

An employee at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro was named Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) Correctional Employee of the Year during a ceremony on Wednesday, May 4, in front of Governor Bruce Rauner. John LaMonica of Vandalia, a bureau of identification technician at Graham, earned the state's top award for saving a life last year. In February 2015 while LaMonica was eating lunch in the employee dining room, Ron Lawrence of Litchfield, who works at Graham for Lake Land College, began to choke on a chicken bone and gasp for air. Without hesitation, LaMonica immediately responded to his aid, performing the Heimlich Maneuver. Through several attempts, LaMonica successfully dislodged the blockage. Read More. |
