| Equipment Replaced After Jail Inmate Riot |

FRANKLIN COUNTY (KFSM) -- New equipment was installed at the Franklin County Jail on Thursday (May 19) after six security cameras, smoke detectors and other items were destroyed during a riot. More than 15 inmates were involved in a riot on April 30. The jail has since increased the number of jailers to prevent similar incidents. However, jail sergeant Tina James said the riot can partly be blamed on the jail’s overcrowding. “Because they’re in a small area, tempers flare up, and they can’t get out and do what they want to do and move around like they want to,” Sergeant James said.
