| Spring cleaning Indiana's roadsides |

LAPORTE — The start of Spring means it is once again time to start the Indiana Department of Transportation’s (INDOT’s) spring cleaning of our major roads and highways. In past years more than 20,000 bags of trash were collected state-wide by INDOT crews, work crews from the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) and over 1,000 Adopt-A-Highway volunteers. Also collected were over 1,000 cubic yards of loose debris, including an electric meter, laptop, horse whip and cash. Two inmate work crews from Westville Correctional Facility (WCC) have been assigned to various stretches of state and local highways in the region to pick up debris. Each crew of six inmates is watched by officers from WCC. They already have covered 192 miles of roadway and picked up 756 bags of trash. Read More. |
