Melrose corrections sergeant recognized |

State Rep. Paul Brodeur, D-Melrose, recently presented Massachusetts Department of Correction Sgt. Richard Peterson, of Melrose, with a citation from the House of Representatives at the Massachusetts Statehouse after a recognition ceremony. Peterson was recognized by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, as well Gov. Charlie Baker, for his actions in resolving a physical dispute while on duty in the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center. The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security supplied the following narrative: “On Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at approximately 8:43 a.m., Sgt. Richard Peterson responded to a multiple-inmate fight involving weapons in the P2 housing unit at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center. As Sgt. Peterson entered the housing unit, he witnessed an inmate wildly swinging a broken mop handle striking an inmate several times while a third inmate was striking the same inmate with closed-fist punches. Several orders to stop were issued to the assaultive inmates but they were ignored. Read More. |
