One Georgia inmate was hospitalized after a fight with another prisoner at a maximum security prison. Nathaniel Williamson, 37, was listed in serious condition Saturday, according to a spokesman at Memorial Health University Medical Center. He was sent to the hospital around 1 p.m. Friday, according to the Savannah Morning News, with injuries to an ear and lip and his eyes and neck. Williamson is serving 11 years for aggravated assault on a police officer and a dozen other charges, including aggravated battery and cruelty to children. The other inmate, 23-year-old Jacobian Irby, is serving a life sentence for murder and was not hospitalized. Corrections officials are investigating the fight and will determine disciplinary action, Georgia Department of Corrections spokeswoman Scheree Lipscomb said. |
