| Commissioners approve sheriff department contract |

LACONIA-The Belknap County Commissioners unanimously approved contract for the Belknap County Sheriff’s Department on Friday, which leaves only the employees in the nursing home without one. Spending for the contract through the Teamsters union now needs to be approved by the county delegation in order for it to take effect. Commission Chair David DeVoy (R-Sanbornton) said it is almost identical to the contract recently approved with the Belknap County Department of Corrections, which includes step increases of 3 percent for the first two years and a 1.4 percent pay raise during those years. DeVoy said the only key difference is that the contract includes a buy out for insurance that was set up to encourage people to get out of the insurance that has deductibles of $500 for single families, $1,000 for two people and $1,500 for families. This was increased for the sheriff’s contract to $2,000 for a single person, $4,500 for two people and $6,000 for a family. There is a $1,000 health incentive for those who drop their insurance.
