AUBURN — Two officers and two staff members at Auburn Correctional Facility were honored at an awards ceremony Wednesday in Albany where the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision recognized 10 employees for their courageous actions in 2015. Corrections officers Kenneth McFadden and Gregory Edgar both earned the Medal of Honor for their quick response to an inmate attack last year. According to DOCCS, McFadden and Edgar were working at University Hospital in Syracuse on May 13, 2015, when inmate Warren Temple stabbed a doctor with a 10-inch-long "icepick-type weapon." McFadden allegedly jumped between the doctor and inmate, suffering five stab wounds to his head and shoulder, and Edgar was struck in the back of the hand while restraining Temple. DOCCS noted the officers' "quick and selfless actions ... averted what could have been a 'deadly encounter.'" Read More. |
