Inmate missing from Manchester transitional housing unit

MANCHESTER, N.H. —An inmate walked away from a transitional housing unit in Manchester Thursday, according to the New Hampshire Department of Corrections.

Officials said Matthew Gerlach, 41, of Manchester, was given permission to leave the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit to visit his family Thursday. He left the facility at 4:45 p.m. and was required to return at 8:45 p.m.

He did not return to the facility and was placed on escape status at around 9:45 p.m.

Gerlach was described as a white male who stand 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs about 240 pounds. Officials said Gerlach has strawberry blonde hair and hazel eyes.
