CANON CITY - The search for a missing man in the Arkansas River has been called off and has now turned into a fugitive man hunt. According to the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, the missing man in the river is 31-year-old Styron Smith, of Canon City who has a nationwide warrant out of Colorado Department of Corrections for absconding from Parole where he was originally in prison for assault and labeled violent. The Sheriff's Office along with Canon City Fire crews originally responded to the river near Canon City for a river rescue on Saturday afternoon and pulled a woman and her 1-year-old child from the water, but Smith was no where to be found. The search went on for hours by crews on foot, rafts, jet ski's, and a helicopter before it was eventually called because of darkness. Crews were expected to resume the search early Sunday morning, but detectives said at 5 a.m. the family of Smith called Law Enforcement stating that they found some of his clothing that he was wearing at the time of the river accident at their home in Canon City and believed that he was out of the river and okay.
