| Repurposing state prison's solitary unit presents challenges |

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Reducing the population in the 106-bed solitary confinement unit at North Dakota's new state prison has emptied an entire cell block. Although the move seems to be ideal for addressing overcrowding at the penitentiary, it presents new challenges because the solitary unit can't be easily repurposed for general population inmates.
