Mitchell seeking clemency in Clinton prison break

PLATTSBURGH — Joyce Mitchell, the prison worker who helped two murderers escape from Clinton Correctional Facility last year, is asking to be released from prison.

Mitchell, who is serving 2⅓ to seven years for her part in the escape, hand wrote a three-page letter to New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Acting Commissioner Anthony J. Annucci in April asking for clemency.

The Press-Republican recently obtained a copy of her letter.

“I was wondering if there was anything you could do to help me to possibly getting clemency,” Mitchell wrote from Bedford Hills Correctional Facility.
