| DOC drops contract with technology vendor |

OLYMPIA, Wash. — State officials announced Wednesday that the Washington Department of Corrections will not renew its contract with an information technology vendor that developed the system that miscalculated thousands of prisoners' release dates, causing many to be released too early. The DOC said the vendor – assessments.com – wrote bad code for the program used to calculate prisoner release dates and delivered poor quality work. "We were assured in Senate hearings that DOC would be examining that contract," said Sen. Steve O'Ban, R-Pierce County.
