HOMINY — The Oklahoma Department of Corrections and the Oklahoma National Guard have set up makeshift showers on the basketball courts at the Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy, allowing inmates to shower while the state waits for the facility’s water tower to refill. Inmates at the medium-security prison have been drinking bottled water and using buckets of water to flush toilets since Saturday afternoon, when a water line break shut down all water flow to the facility. Water flow has been intermittently restored since then, and maintenance crews replaced a valve Saturday night that appeared to fix the problem through Sunday. But the town of Hominy had a water break around 4 p.m. Monday, causing the prison again to need potable water and ice trucks. Read More. |
