UMATILLA, Oregon - The Oregon State Police are investigating after a 29-year-old inmate at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla died unexpectedly on Saturday. The Oregon Department of Corrections announced Sunday that Rigoberto Corono-Avila was transported off-site for medical care Saturday afternoon. He was pronounced dead a few hours later. Corono-Avila was serving time on felony assault and sex abuse charges, and his earliest release date was just six months away. The Department of Corrections did not release any details about the circumstances surrounding Corono-Avila's death. The Oregon State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the death, as it does with all unanticipated deaths in state prisons. Read More. |
