| Department of Corrections website uses visual data on incarceration |

Visual data provided to the public by the Kansas Department of Corrections is intended to increase transparency and shed light on incarceration trends across the state. In January, the agency launched iDashboard, which can be found at www.doc.ks.gov/dashboards/annual-report-dashboards. The website features a dropdown menu of 18 categories including statistics on length of sentences, recidivism and facility capacities. Additionally there are breakdowns by gender and race and information on juvenile incarceration. For instance, in 2006, the female inmate population was 651. The projected number for 2016 is 898 — an increase of 28 percent. For males in 2006, there were 8,301 inmates. In 2016, the projected number is 9,125 — an increase of 10 percent. The website also tracks data related to the Prison Rape Elimination Act. Substantiated staff-on-offender cases have decreased from 15 incidents in 2013 to three in 2015, while substantiated offender-on-offender cases have increased from 4 in 2013 to 25 in 2015.
